Big Phat Beard Blog: Beards, Barbers & a Bit of Balance

The last couple of months have been flat-out at Big Phat Beard and inside the Big Phat Barbershop here in Belfast. Between trimming beards, shipping orders, and testing new products, I’ve also managed to squeeze in a bit of travel – Turkey, Venice, Budapest, and London have all been ticked off the list since June.

But as much as that sounds mad, most of my focus has been right here at home, keeping the beard game strong. Orders have been steady, lads are still getting their oils and washes in, and the support has been unreal.

Big News at the Barbershop

Tomorrow marks a big step for us inside the barbershop – our new apprentice barber is starting. Bringing fresh talent into the shop is something I’m buzzing about. It’s not just about haircuts and beard trims; it’s about building the next generation of barbers who understand the culture, the craft, and the crack.

The shop has been busier than ever, and with an extra pair of hands, we’ll be able to keep more walk-ins sharp while still giving our regulars the service they’ve come to expect.

Beard Butter Breakthrough

Behind the curtain at Big Phat Beard, I’ve been busy trialing something new: our first ever poured beard butter. The testers’ feedback? Absolutely incredible. This one’s rich, deeply conditioning, and gives a proper medium hold – perfect for shaping and softening without weighing your beard down.

Right now, it’s in the final stage of cosmetic testing, and once it clears, it’ll be ready for launch. This is going to be a proper game changer in beard grooming, especially for lads looking for that mix of style and nourishment.

Beyond Beards – A Personal Journey

Now, it’s not all just beard oils, butters, and barbershops around here. Over the past while, I’ve been pushing myself to learn and try new things. I’ve started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which has been a class way to challenge myself physically and mentally. On top of that, I’m learning Irish with my wife and even taking on Spanish at the side – so aye, the brain’s getting as much of a workout as the body these days.

And just this morning, I did something I never thought I’d say – I went for my first run. Anyone that knows me knows I bloody hate running, but it felt massive to finally push past that and get moving. It’s all part of keeping balance, staying healthy, and proving to myself that growth isn’t just for beards.

Keeping It Real

At the heart of it all, I’m still just a fella running a beard care brand in Ireland and a busy Belfast barbershop. I’m not about pretending to be some big high-flying CEO with a massive team behind me. It’s me, the barbers, and the passion for beards that drives all of this forward.

That’s why I love sharing these updates with you. Whether it’s new product news, changes in the shop, or just the small wins I’ve been chasing personally, I want you to feel like you’re part of this journey too.

So here’s to new beginnings, stronger beards, and pushing past limits – whether that’s in the gym, on the mats, learning a new language, or launching a new beard butter. Thanks for sticking with me and being part of the Big Phat Beard family.
